COMMUNITY 2004/2005
- Glendora Kiwaniannes' Table Fashion Tea
Our sister community service organization, Glendora Kiwaniannes, sponsors an annual tea each spring. Proceeds from their event are earmarked for the
"Maxine Bergstrom Artist in Residence Grants," which expand Glendora Unified School District's student exposure to the arts.
This year's event took place at the La Fetra Community Center in Glendora on Saturday, April, 9, 2005. Local service clubs, as well as individuals in community
service organizations, were invited to decorate a table. This years' table decoration theme was "My Hero." Table decoration entries must follow the overall
general theme of this annual event. The SI Azusa/Glendora tea table decoration entry was designed by Karen Fortus, SI Azusa/Glendora member and employee of the U.S. Forest Service, with the table theme of
"My Hero: Smokey Bear."
- YWCA WINGS Adopt-A-Family Holiday Gift Drive
- The YWCA WINGS Adopt-A-Family Holiday Gift Drive provides survivors of domestic violence and their children with Christmas gifts. This is a great way for individuals who would like to give to others in need,
to provide meaningful, personal gifts to families whose lives have been affected by domestic violence. Every year WINGS has over 100 families that need to be adopted.
SI Azusa/Glendora is proud to note that two of our members each adopted a family for Christmas 2004. In turn, both SI members were joined by others, within their
respective places of employment, who adopted families for the holiday. Their generosity and selflessness is truly appreciated.
EVENTS of 2004/2005
- Great Trivia Challenge 13
- Yes, it is true! The Soroptimist International of Azusa/Glendora 2005 Team were the champions of Great Trivia Challenge 13!
This annual event of the Glendora Public Library Friends Foundation was held Friday, March 11, 2005, at 6:30 p.m. at Azusa Pacific University.
Those in attendance enjoyed a fun-filled evening of great food and entertainment, as some 26 teams sponsored
by local businesses and service organizations competed against each other answering questions truly trivial
and difficult.
The three-member SI Azusa/Glendora 2005 Team was proudly represented at this year's event by Ann Chilton, team captain and SI Azusa/Glendora member,
and two friends of Soroptimist, Debbie Ream and Richard Janicki.
All proceeds from the evening benefit the Glendora Public Library's community education services, including
the Adult Literacy and Family Literacy Programs.

- Hollywood and Vine
- This second annual SI Azusa/Glendora wine tasting event took place at the National Hot Rod Association Museum, located at
the Fairplex in Pomona on Thursday, November 18, 2004.
Over 75 people were in attendance at this evening of great conviviality. Opportunity prizes, such as wine and movie-theme baskets, a fall-theme basket, along with
a huge platter of famous homemade fudge, were donated by members and friends of Soroptimist.
Wine expert and moderator, Don Goldmann, guided and educated attendees through a wine tasting and multimedia
presentation of "Who's Who of Hollywood Wine Makers."
After the tasting and presentation, the NHRA museum was available for attendees to enjoy and tour. The
very full evening ended with an impromptu and "spirited" wine auction.
The event sponsors included:
Foothill Independent Bank,
State Farm Insurance / Rose Wentz,
Ken Turner Real Estate / Julia Bacon,
Grand Printing & Design,
Jolie Elman, SI Azusa/Glendora webmaster, and
Century 21 Whiting Realtor
Proceeds from this wine event assist EYE-DAS, Project SISTER, as well as other services which aid women and children in our community.
